What's the best thing about raising kids in Worcester?

What does Worcester offer that other cities and towns don't?

My hunch is that a lot of folks will say it's the balance Worcester has between big and small, exciting and low key. But what do you think?

hello. i like the diversity that we have in Worcester. My nephews live in a small town and in his middle school, 2 kids with darker skin. I think that is odd. I want my kids to be exposed to a little of everything so they are well rounded. I hope that makes sense. Also, i love that we do not have to travel far to find anything we need. Plus i think worcester has a lot of beautiful buildings and interesting scenery.

i agree with you laurie! I enjoy the diversity of the city and really value the idea that my daughter will grow up with an understanding of different people and cultures.

I like worcester because its a city in a lot of ways but also has a lot of green spaces and woods. Does anyone know of any free events in the parks over the fall?

hi, sarah.
i love worcester, too. i first thought of the Greater Worcester Land Trust ( http://www.gwlt.org/ ). they have had some hikes going that seem great. i have only gone on one in Boynton Park and it was fantastic. this one was on the interpretive side. i'm not sure if they all are. go to their site, email them. a bunch of wonderful people work there.

other than that i am a bit in the dark in terms of finding free events. if you don't mind, could you post them when you find out?

Hi all! New to the group and happy to see it - Worcester needed something like this.

As for staying on-topic and along the same lines of diversity - there are a lot of great restaurants here in Worcester. You can expose kids to a huge array of foods and cultural experiences at these places. Best thing is that most places are family friendly enough to make it work well.

The city also has some GREAT festivals for families. We're looking forward to stArt on the Street ;-)

And lastly, I don't know of anything "free in a park" off hand but you can check the social web calendars at: http://socialweb.net/. A lot of orgs. post stuff there.
